PLANNING

The Planning Department is responsible for formulating and enforcing planning policies and standards that will ensure a quality living and working environment for Pinehurst. This is done by establishing the regulations set forth in the Pinehurst Development Ordinance (PDO) and the Pinehurst Municipal Code. A major responsibility of the department is to review subdivision and site development plans to ensure compliance with the PDO. In addition, the Village’s Code Enforcement Officer enforces the provisions of the Municipal Code and the PDO. The department also performs zoning inspections and provides support to the Community Appearance Commission, the Conservation Commission, the Planning and Zoning Board, the Board of Adjustment, the Historic Preservation Commission and Village Council.

Another significant responsibility of the department is to oversee the Village’s the Long Range Comprehensive Plan. The 2010 plan became effective on June 1, 2010.  The Plan contains two separate documents, a Strategic Element and the Implementation Element.  Both plans, as well as additional information on the adoption process can be found here. The Planning Department aids the Village in guiding growth and change in ways that complement the ambience of Pinehurst.

The Planning Department, along with Building Inspections, is located in Village Hall at 395 Magnolia Road and can be reached at (910) 295-2581.
